Dogs always know who's bad, and bark at them. Dogs in movies are always smart. They care for the drunk master, bringing in his shoes, or pulling him to the dining table for food. There is never a dog that craps all over the house and barks at visitors. Hero's dog is 'Moti' and villain's dog is 'Tiger'. The dog usually understands when the hero/heroine is in trouble and chases the villain's car to hills at a high speed.
Among the birds, pigeon usually symbolizes romance and is instrumental in bringing the couple together. Often the pigeon is used as a postman by the lovelorn couple. Bigger birds like hawks (called Allah-rakha) are the protectors and avenge their master's troubles. Analogies of `tota-maina' and `murga-murgi' are used extensively by the lyricists.
