The Fakir Baba is a regular feature of Hindi films. This is especially true in the case of Hindi films which feature orphaned children. 9/10 orphans in Hindi films have a fatherly hand of a wise old man (who just by accident is a beggar) that guides them in life. This wise old man just roams the earth. He never shaves, obviously cannot afford a bath and is the ultimate authority on life although his success with it is visibly questionable. He always wears beads, and usually has some kind of a musical instrument, as the Fakir seldom goes through the film without a song. Stellar performances as beggar / fakir : Bharat Bhushan in too many films to mention. Kader Khan in Muqaddar ka Sikandar. Arjun Hingorani in Kahani Kismet Ki.
